Azerbaijan Builds Major Substation to Integrate Green Energy into National Power Grid

APRIL 30, 2025

A large-scale substation is under construction in Azerbaijan to ensure the effective integration of green energy into the country’s unified energy system. The initiative supports the country’s green energy transition and will play a key role in enhancing grid stability and efficiency.

The 330/220/110 kV Jabrayil Junction Substation is being developed to accommodate the increasing volume of electricity generated from renewable energy sources. The facility will serve as a central node for connecting new solar and wind power plants to the national grid.

According to energy officials, the substation will significantly improve transmission capacity and enable the safe, reliable delivery of clean electricity from green energy zones such as Jabrayil, Zangilan, Gubadli, and Lachin.

This infrastructure project is part of Azerbaijan’s broader strategy to modernize its power grid and increase the share of renewable energy in the national energy balance. The development of the Jabrayil substation aligns with ongoing investments in energy infrastructure and supports the country’s long-term climate and energy security goals.
