The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) views the experience and support of Türkiye and Azerbaijan as key to achieving its green energy goals, according to the country’s Minister of Economy and Energy, Olgun Amcaoğlu.
Speaking to Report, Amcaoğlu highlighted Northern Cyprus’ strong commitment to advancing its renewable energy capacity. "We currently have an energy base of 594 megawatts, with 120 megawatts already coming from solar power. Our island enjoys 333 sunny days annually and offers a solar energy potential of 2,400 hours per year—an enormous advantage for our energy transition," the minister said.
Amcaoğlu emphasized that transitioning to green energy is the government’s top priority. "Türkiye already generates more than 55% of its energy from renewables, and we are carefully observing Azerbaijan’s notable progress in this field. Our aim is to build a fully green energy-based island model by 2030," he noted.
He added that Türkiye and Azerbaijan’s expertise in renewable energy serves as an invaluable resource for TRNC. "Azerbaijan’s vast experience and information base in green energy are of great interest to us, and we are closely following their developments. Moving forward, we intend to elevate this topic at organizational meetings, particularly at ministerial discussions within the framework of the Turkic Energy Organization."
The minister also expressed Northern Cyprus’ readiness to take concrete steps to further strengthen its role in regional energy cooperation. "We are prepared to advance practical initiatives that will help position our country as a key player in the Turkic energy community," Amcaoğlu concluded.
