Azerbaijan Hosts Inaugural D-8 Week to Strengthen Economic and Climate Cooperation

OCTOBER 20, 2025

Azerbaijan is hosting D-8 Week for the first time, marking a significant milestone in its role within the Developing-8 (D-8) organization, as reported by Report. The week-long event features discussions with representatives from D-8 member countries—Türkiye, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, Iran, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Malaysia—focusing on establishing key institutions in Azerbaijan, including the D-8 Energy and Climate Center, the D-8 Media Excellence Center, and the D-8 Transport Excellence Center.

The agenda includes a historic informal meeting of D-8 Commissioners (Retreat) and a High-Level Dialogue on Climate and Cities, emphasizing organizational reforms to transform the D-8 into a robust economic bloc. New priorities such as climate action, urban development, and media cooperation are also being integrated into the D-8 framework.

Azerbaijan, which joined the D-8 at the Cairo Summit in December 2024, 27 years after the organization’s founding, is taking a leading role in advancing these initiatives to foster greater collaboration among member states.
