Azerbaijan is at the forefront of renewable energy development with ambitious, large-scale projects, President Ilham Aliyev declared during his address at the conference celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
“Renewable energy has emerged as a critical new frontier, and Azerbaijan is leading the charge,” he stated. “The projects underway are truly substantial. In Garabagh and East Zangazur alone, over 30 hydropower stations have been commissioned in the past five years, delivering more than 300 MW of capacity. Construction of solar and wind facilities is also progressing rapidly. Just recently, we laid the foundation for two 100 MW solar plants in Jabrayil district, alongside a third 240 MW solar station already under development. By 2030, we aim to achieve 6,000 MW of combined solar, wind, and hydropower capacity—marking a transformative industrial leap. I urge Azerbaijani scientists to actively contribute to this vital sector,” the President emphasized.
