Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov held a meeting with Pedro Miras, President of the World Petroleum Council (WPC Energy).
According to information released by the Ministry, the parties discussed current issues on the global energy agenda, regional energy projects, and the development prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the World Petroleum Council.
Minister Parviz Shahbazov noted that, despite being a traditional oil and gas exporter, Azerbaijan has also achieved significant successes in the direction of energy transition. In recent years, large-scale reforms have been carried out in the energy sector, numerous normative-legal documents have been adopted, and the development of renewable energy sources has been accelerated.
He emphasized that Azerbaijan has set a target to increase the share of renewable energy sources in installed capacity to 30 percent by 2030. Currently, this indicator is planned to be raised to 33.7 percent by 2027. This demonstrates that the country has made serious progress in the energy transition process and that work in this direction will continue.
During the meeting, energy interconnections covering Central Asia, Türkiye, and Europe were evaluated within the framework of a unified concept. It was stated that these projects strengthen the integration of energy systems, contribute to regional energy security, and hold strategic importance in terms of the development of energy, digital infrastructure, and data centers.
The President of the World Petroleum Council, Pedro Miras, particularly highlighted Azerbaijan’s role as a key energy corridor between Asia and Europe, emphasizing that the country serves as an exemplary model in promoting dialogue among various energy approaches.
During the conversation, an exchange of views also took place regarding participation in the “WPC Energy” Congress to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2026, as well as future cooperation opportunities with the organization.
