Azerbaijan and the United States to elevate energy cooperation to a new level

FEBRUARY 11, 2026

In Baku, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and U.S. Vice President James David Vance signed a Strategic Partnership Charter that formalizes the expansion of energy cooperation.

The document states that Azerbaijan and the United States, recognizing Azerbaijan’s strategic importance as a reliable partner in energy security, intend to develop cooperation in the fields of oil, gas, and electricity both on a bilateral basis and in joint partnership formats with third countries.

The Charter particularly emphasizes that the parties will actively cooperate in the implementation of interconnector projects, diversification of energy supply routes, and realization of joint energy initiatives. In addition, deepening cooperation in the field of civilian nuclear energy is highlighted as one of the priority issues.

This document confirms the transition of Azerbaijan–U.S. relations to a new stage in the areas of energy, economy, and regional security, and creates a solid legal foundation for future joint projects.
