Kazakhstan and China to launch a 500 MW wind farm

APRIL 27, 2026

Kazakhstan and China are set to build a 500 MW wind farm. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has approved an agreement between Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy and Karaganda Wind Power LLP, a Kazakh-Chinese joint venture. The investment deal was signed on the sidelines of a regional environmental summit by Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov and Shao Yuebo, Chairman of Karaganda Wind Power. The project, backed by an intergovernmental agreement, is part of Kazakhstan’s renewable energy expansion program. Total investment will reach $645 million. The wind farm is expected to produce 1.6 billion kWh of green electricity per year and reduce CO₂ emissions by about 1.3 million tons annually. The initiative aims to boost energy security, promote the green economy, and attract foreign investment to Kazakhstan’s energy sector.
