The Deputy Minister of Energy, Elnur Soltanov, stated at the Belgrade Energy Forum during a panel session titled “Ensuring the Energy Transition in Southeast Europe: Cooperation, Resilience, Leadership” that the countries of the Caucasus and the Balkans, despite speaking different languages, understanding different cultures, and having limited resources, must make greater use of their ability to find ways to cooperate, Report’s Balkan bureau informs.
He noted that there are many similarities between the Balkan and Caucasus countries: “Unfortunately, these similarities are often linked to conflicts and bloody processes, because both regions are complex spaces surrounded by great powers. But at the same time, Azerbaijan is a courageous and well‑known country. We know different cultures, understand different languages, and know how to work with strong actors. I highlight this because there are lessons to be drawn from it. Azerbaijan has managed to build a regional coalition by using these cultural and linguistic affinities. At the same time, during difficult times, we have gained the support of Turkey, a major regional player. If we had not built successful cooperation, it would have been impossible to implement current projects. We must learn from each other such good examples.
