The Asian Development Bank's (ADB) Board of Directors has approved a new regional technical assistance project aimed at deploying advanced technologies for climate change adaptation and infrastructure strengthening, Report informs, citing the ADB.
The initiative, titled "Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Infrastructure and Adaptation Strategies," covers 42 member countries of the bank, including Azerbaijan.
According to project documents, the programme is funded through the Special Technical Assistance Fund in the amount of $800,000.
The main objective of the initiative is to equip public institutions in participating countries with modern AI‑based analytical tools for identifying, assessing, and mitigating climate and nature risks. The project also aims to help protect vulnerable segments of the population from the effects of natural disasters and to enhance the reliability of critical infrastructure.
It should be noted that Azerbaijan has been a member of the ADB since 1999. Over this period, the bank has invested approximately $5.6 billion in the country, of which $4.4 billion was directed to the public sector and $1.2 billion to the private sector. The main areas of financing are energy ($1.7 billion) and transport ($1.5 billion).
Under the new partnership strategy, the ADB plans to provide Azerbaijan with up to $2.5 billion in funding.
The ADB was established in 1966. The bank's headquarters is located in Manila. It unites 69 member countries, including 50 states from the Asia‑Pacific region.
