Azerbaijan's wind power generation is expected to increase approximately 6‑fold by the end of 2026, said Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov at Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), Report informs.
According to him, alongside the implementation of solar and wind energy projects with a total capacity of approximately 8 GW, power grids are being strengthened, energy storage systems are being deployed, system flexibility is being increased, and new interconnectors are being developed.
"The results of this direction are already visible in our energy balance. By the end of this year, we expect wind power generation to increase approximately 6‑fold, and solar power generation by more than 26%. By the end of 2027, approximately 2 GW of solar and wind capacity will be integrated into the grid, which will enable an annual reduction of 2.4 million tonnes of emissions. The strategic vision set by President Ilham Aliyev is our guiding principle: to align energy security with the green transition, to build a sustainable, low‑carbon energy system using Azerbaijan's existing energy leadership, and to strengthen our country's position as a regional green energy hub through diversified energy connections," Shahbazov stated.
The minister noted that Karabakh and East Zangazur are the core areas of Azerbaijan's green transition: "In these territories, reconstruction, energy, and climate policy converge. We are also taking consistent steps to implement the green energy zone concept in Nakhchivan."
