More than 645 million barrels, or 87 million tonnes, of oil have been produced from the East Azeri field to date.
The field has made a significant contribution to the 4.7 billion barrels of total oil produced from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field, which began production in November 1997.
East Azeri is currently operating safely and reliably. At the end of the third quarter of 2026, the platform’s average daily production stood at approximately 46,000 barrels.
The East Azeri facilities comprise a production, drilling and accommodation platform with 48 well slots, a 30-inch subsea pipeline connecting the platform to the Sangachal terminal onshore, as well as a number of in-field pipelines and associated systems.
Around 170 people currently work at East Azeri, with the majority being Azerbaijani specialists. Both platform managers are also Azerbaijani nationals.
A total of 39 wells and numerous sidetracks have been drilled from the platform to date. Of the 36 wells currently in operation, 27 are production wells, eight are water-injection wells and one is used for cuttings reinjection.
East Azeri continues to demonstrate the role of innovation and technology in maximizing recovery from the mature ACG field. The recently handed-over D18Z well was drilled with more than 2,000 metres of open hole, including over 1,500 metres through sand within the target reservoir interval.
D18Z has the longest reservoir contact among the wells drilled to date at ACG. The achievement highlights the importance of advanced seismic imaging, drilling and completion technologies in unlocking additional value from the field.
First oil from East Azeri was produced on October 21, 2006, completing the second phase of ACG’s full-field development. The first oil was produced from one of eight pre-drilled wells and delivered to the Sangachal terminal through a new subsea pipeline on November 10, 2006.
